Go Ahead Eagles – Volendam, Ereste Divisie Prediction
Go Ahead Eagles started great theirs campaign in Erste Divisie with 3 wins in 3 games. Their toughest victory came in the last round after a success over Maastricht by 2-1 as a guest after being with +1, because of a send off for the hosts, but still it was a hard game for Go Ahead as Maastricht played very well. However, Go Ahead have the ambition finally to return in the elite and this season they have a chance to achieve it. They have conceded a goal in their last two games, although they have won, but in the first match as a host they have smashed 5-0 Utrecht II. The interesting thing about Go Ahead is that they have finished very poorly last campaign with 6 consecutive losses. But after the end of the season they did not lose a single game. They made three draws and won once in their frienlies and then the new season started. They have scored 16 goals in their last 6 games, which means they’re quite effective in front of the opponent’s post.
Volendam is on the other end. The guests did not manage to defeat even AZ II in the last round, which is also quite bad, because AZ are in bad form. Volendam is at 17th place with only 1 point, which they actually won against AZ. They are in terrible form having only 1 win, 3 draws and 10 losses in the last 14 games. Their only clean sheet was against Lisse, which they defeated by 0-1 in a friendly game. Overall Volendam are very weak in defense and it is quite normal to concede a lot of goals, especially as a guest. They have conceded at least 2 goals in 14 of their last 16 away games, which proves their massive issues at the back.
Go Ahead have no problems with Volendam lately and have defeated them as a host in 5 of the last 6 games. Just last year they did 1-1 and before that Ahead scored at least 3 goals in their 5 wins against AZ II at home. Based on the form of the teams, their performance as a host/guest and the traditions between them, we expect a new victory for Go Ahead, but as this is Erste Divisie, our prediction will be Go Ahead over 1.5 team goals at 1.64.
Right-back Julian Lelieveld returns after serving a one match suspension but centre-back Sam Beukema is ruled out with a calf injury.
Midfielder Joey Veerman misses out after fracturing a metatarsal in last week’s draw with Jong AZ. Centre-back Erik Schouten is still side lined with a cruciate ligament injury.
